BCR Cyber Launches December ICE-T Training Cohort for Maryland EARN and SNAP Participants

BCR Cyber will begin a no-cost, six-month cybersecurity training cohort on December 7 for qualified Maryland residents entering the IT and cybersecurity fields, adding a governance, risk and compliance track to its Intrusion Countermeasures Education and Training program.

The Baltimore-based training and job placement provider offers ICE-T through EARN Maryland and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s Employment and Training program. The upcoming cohort is supported by a portion of $4.7 million in EARN grant awards announced by Gov. Wes Moore and the Maryland Department of Labor.

Participants begin with CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ training and certification before choosing between two tracks. One combines BCR Cyber’s SOC Operations Analyst I and Fundamentals of AI in Cybersecurity programs. The other introduces Governance, Risk and Compliance–Applied Fundamentals, known as GRC-AF.

Developed with employers in BCR Cyber’s industry consortium, GRC-AF covers security governance, risk assessment and compliance frameworks, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2. It concludes with an exercise in which participants assess controls, gather evidence and produce compliance findings during simulated live incidents on the company’s Series 3000 cyber range. Both tracks incorporate hands-on training using the range.

The new track responds to EARN Maryland’s Strategic Expansion component, which funds training pathways leading directly to jobs paying at or above the regional median wage. BCR Cyber said its goal for GRC-AF graduates is placement in governance, risk and compliance roles paying at or above Maryland’s median wage.

“Our ICE-T program offers both a solution to building the state’s tech workforce and a pathway for underserved Maryland residents to break into new, high-paying careers,” said Michael Spector, BCR Cyber’s president and CEO.

The company’s Strategic Industry Partner Consortium includes more than 40 cybersecurity employers, among them Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton and Accenture. Members help shape training and recruit from the program’s graduate pool.

Established in 2017 as Baltimore Cyber Range, BCR Cyber provides training for government and commercial clients alongside workforce development and placement services. The company reports having trained thousands of people and placed more than 83% into employment.
