Join MTC for a half-day technology symposium bringing together technology leaders, life sciences innovators, investors, entrepreneurs, and emerging talent to explore how AI is transforming healthcare and biotechnology.

Agenda:

8:30-9:00 AM           Registration, Coffee, and Networking

9:00-9:15 AM           Welcome and Opening Remarks

9:15-10:00 AM          The AI and Computational Pathology Revolution in Oncology Drug Development

Keynote speaker:  Mark Gustavson, Senior Director, Computational Pathology, AstraZeneca where he will dive in to a real world example of how we are using computational pathology to better identify patients for cutting edge therapies.  Time for Q&A

10:00-10:20 AM   From Classroom to Client Work: What Employers Should Know About AI-Ready Graduates

In this conversational Q&A, Towson University student Monica Mitchell and Sandra Warner of Mind Over Machines follow one student's path from winning a university AI competition to working on real client AI projects as an intern. Monica, an economics and international studies major, talks about the gap between academic theory and hands-on practice: how a consultancy approaches clients, how AI work actually gets delivered, and what it took to become confident applying AI in her field. Sandra adds the employer's view on what made the internship work and what hiring organizations should look for in graduates. The session speaks to a growing question for Maryland's technology and life sciences employers: is what students learn in school lining up with what the workforce needs?

10:20-11:10 AM     Panel 1:  Beyond the AI Hype: Creating, Capturing & Realizing Value in Biotech

AI is reshaping biotech and life sciences, creating new possibilities across our industry. But an important question remains: Where will AI create durable economic value, who will capture that value, and how will the market ultimately value it?
For investors, founders and executives, we'll look beyond simply who is "using AI" to explore what AI actually enables: faster development, greater capital efficiency, better outcomes, stronger competitive positioning and ultimately, greater enterprise value.
Join us for a conversation bringing together investment, industry and commercialization perspectives to explore:
  • From innovation to investment: What separates compelling technology from a compelling business and investment opportunity.
  • Creating and capturing value: Where AI is improving the economics of biotech and how to identify who ultimately captures that value.
  • Building strategic value: What can make an innovative life sciences company more compelling to investors, strategic partners and potential acquirers.
Moderator:
  • Jennifer Gallino, Associate Vice President, Rockefeller Global Investment Management
Panelists:
  • Adam Konopolsky, Managing Director, Blackstone
  • Caroline Popper, MD, JD, and MPH, Corporate Attorney, Nemphos Braue, Founder, Popper and Company
  • David M. Sotsky, CPFA , Private Advisor, Vice President, Rockefeller Global Family Office

11:10-11:25 AM        Networking Break

11:25-12:15 AM        Panel 2: "AI in Action: What's Actually Working, What Isn't, and Why"

Beyond the headlines, where is AI delivering real results across life sciences — and where has it fallen short? This panel brings together leaders who are deploying AI in practice, from drug discovery to enterprise operations to legal and regulatory oversight. They'll share candid stories of measurable wins, expensive disappointments, and the hard-won lessons in between — including what it really takes to move AI from a promising pilot to production, and how to do it without creating risk you can't defend.

Moderator: Steve Navarro, President, Mind Over Machines

Panelists:

  • Kim Cato, VP IT, Customer Channels Group, ThermoFisher
  • Robert Hsiao, Head of Beijing AI Center and Discovery, AstraZeneca
  • Alex Moylan, AI Attorney, Baker Donelson
  • Danielle Seiler, Director Proof of Concept Lead, U.S. Pharmacopeia

12:15-12:30 PM   The Art of the Possible: Reimagining Work with Human + AI Teams

Subject Matter Expert Tim Kulp, Chief Innovation Officer, Mind Over Machines

What becomes possible when we rethink how work gets done and who can help us do it? This session explores three foundations for creating real value with AI: understanding the work, managing context, and redesigning the team.

12:30 - 1:30 PM        Lunch and Networking
