Biomedical Research Institute
The Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) is a non-profit company dedicated to the advancement of infectious disease research. For more than 40 years BRI's Biorepository has provided secure cold-storage solutions for over 6 million biospecimens and serves the medical, scientific, and biopharmaceutical industries. BRI uses state-of-the-art systems that provide 24/7 real-time temperature monitoring of the facility and individual storage units. Our team is comprised of biologists, facility technicians and biobankers with expert knowledge in cryopreservation, sample management, cold-chain logistics and more. The Biorepository is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
BRI is also home to the NIH-NIAID Schistosomiasis Resource Center (SRC) which supplies parasite research reagents to laboratories in the U.S. and abroad. Schistosomiasis is a helminth (worm) infection in greater than 300 million people living in the tropical regions of the world. The SRC maintains 5 of the major Schistosoma life cycles impacting human health including S. haematobium, S.japonicum and S.mansoni. The SRC provides education and training on schistosomiasis laboratory protocols.
BRI is conveniently located in the heart of Maryland's biotech corridor near major research centers in the Washington, DC area. We are supported by grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health.
