Job Description Summary:

The Senior Manager, Inclusion Diversity Equity & Engagement (IDE&E) Communications plays a key role in using a multi-channel communications strategy to enable the change management needed to implement our IDE&E agenda and achieve our 2030+ goals and communicate progress both internally and externally in collaboration with the Corporate Communications team. Reporting to the VP Human Resources IDE&E, the Senior Manager, Inclusion Diversity Equity & Engagement Communications will use change management principles to identify, implement, and execute communication tactics that will drive leadership impact, associate sentiment and overall organizational adoption.

This is a remote role in the US preferably located within commutable distance to our Franklin Lakes, NJ, San Diego, CA, or Sparks, MD site.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Use change management practices in their personal design, development, execution, and management of a multi-channel communication strategy (Intranet, BD website, blog posts, social media, etc.) that activates organizational alignment and maximizes the speed of internal and external adoption of our cultural transformation globally.
  • Write and create content across a number of channels, both long and short form pieces that are clear, simple and engaging in order to drive readership and adoption. This includes reports, talking points, toolkits, web content, blogs, intranet articles, social posts, and a suite of employee communications including letters, video scripts, memos, event agendas, narratives and other tactics.
  • Must be able to align ID&E communications plans and tactics with Corporate Communications to ensure consistency of message with broader company goals and to also ensure appropriate level of detail, timing and tone vis a vis other corporate plans.
  • Use storytelling to identify and amplify stories from throughout the organization that serve as proof points in transforming our culture, including key cultural focus areas and how we work together to deliver the greatest impact. Review creative concepts to ensure effective alignment with our business strategy, goals, and BD brand identity.
  • Coach and equip key stakeholders such as business leaders, Corporate Communications, Global Marketing, communications business partners from across the organization, HR Business Partners, and Associate Resource Groups by providing strategic and practical recommendations that leverage communications to accelerate change management and achieve talent and culture outcomes resulting in business success.
  • Oversee communications practices and content for the Associate Resource Groups (ARG). The incumbent will be responsible for connecting ARG input, plans and content to the Corporate Communications team for consideration in broader corporate initiatives.  Will also demonstrate the ability to see the bigger picture and bring forward best practice in change management and transformation. 
  • Integrate insights and use key integration points across multiple data points/functions (i.e. talent management, learning & development, total rewards, talent acquisition, and culture/associate engagement) to develop core messaging that can be used to achieve greater adoption of our IDE&E strategy.

  • Engage, and align internal and external audiences in telling BD’s IDE&E story in alignment with our 2030+ goals. Promote, enhance and protect BD’s reputation to both internal and external audiences.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years' experience in a professional public relations or communications role with demonstrated experience in internal and external communications, and content strategy. 1-3 years of ID&E communications experience preferred. An advanced degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing is a plus.
  • Experience in a publicly traded company and/or regulated industry preferred.
  • Must have experience creating and developing strategy in addition to implementation and execution.
  • Intuition and ability to ask thoughtful questions and connect the dots across various initiatives and teams. Ability to see the big picture and also dive into the details.
  • Must have a passion for and demonstrated experience in using storytelling to write compelling internal and external communications/narratives that drive an increased sense of inclusion and belonging. Should have experience in writing and creating long- and short-form content across a number of channels that is clear, simple and engaging.
  • Demonstrated mastery in modern communications channels and tactics such as social and digital media, intranet, etc. Knowledge of Microsoft 360 platforms including Sharepoint, Microsoft Teams, Yammer, and other associated 360 applications used in internal communications.
  • Experience effectively working across a global matrixed organization and managing a variety of stakeholders and audiences. Executive presence – demonstrated ability to work with high level leaders.
  • Excellent customer service orientation, flexible attitude and adaptable to change.
  • Proven commitment to excellence with an ability to thrive under tight deadlines and multi-task to prioritize projects and communicate priorities to stakeholders. Results oriented with an ability to implement and execute measurable results.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and appropriately manage confidential information.
