Your Role:

The Senior Associate Scientist will be technically competent in the field of Molecular Biology to perform a wide range of laboratory techniques with minimal requirement for supervision and will perform laboratory work for custom projects including custom client testing, development and validation studies.  The Senior Associate Scientist is required to maintain detailed workbooks and ensure that documentation fulfils accepted professional and industry standards.  In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab environment and will co-ordinate house-keeping schedules and maintains critical lab reagents and equipment.   The role requires minimal supervisory responsibilities that will extend to training staff members, providing instruction and direction to Lab assistants and Associate Scientists regarding lab duties and completion of lab records.

 

This is a laboratory-based position and the primary objective of the post holder is to generate high quality experimental test data to support development and validation of test methods or complex client studies. 

  • Must be capable of performing a wide range of laboratory methods unsupervised
    • Digital PCR, Sanger based sequencing, real time PCR, nucleic acid extraction and/or liquid handling automation
  • Demonstrates good technical knowledge and problem-solving skills within areas of expertise
  • Follow relevant company and regulatory practices (i.e. GMP, GDP, GLP, H&S)
  • Ability to write SOP and batch records
  • Use and maintain scientific equipment and instrumentation, computer systems; ensure that they are fit for purpose and kept in a validated state
  • Ensure stock is maintained in the laboratory and order specific materials through i-procurement systems
  • Organizes and plans laboratory workload with Supervisor/Scientist to ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively to complete tasks and activities
  • Proactively implements improvements to laboratory processes and procedures to improve efficiencies and reduce waste
  • Coordinates housekeeping and equipment checks and performs inspections to ensure that laboratory compliance is maintained
  • Performs training in use of new methods or new equipment, where applicable
  • Actively maintains a clean, tidy and safe work environment
  • Maintains effective working relationships with the wider organization including Support Services, Operational Scientists, other laboratory personnel and Quality Assurance teams, will be critical for success in the role

 

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Sciences discipline (i.e. Molecular Biology, Microbiology, etc.) with 3+ years’ experience in a GLP/GMP laboratory or related environment – OR –
  • Master’s degree in a Biological Sciences discipline (i.e. Molecular Biology, Microbiology, etc.) with 1+ years’ experience in a GLP/GMP laboratory or related environment – OR –
  • PhD in a Biological Sciences discipline (i.e. Molecular Biology, Microbiology, etc.)
  • 1+ years working experience with one or all of the following: digital PCR, Sanger based sequencing, real time PCR, nucleic acid extraction, liquid handling automation

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Strong molecular biology skills, especially with qPCR
  • Broad working knowledge of Molecular Biology lab policies and assays
  • Capable of developing and executing a broad range of molecular biology protocols
  • Performs basic data analysis
  • Automation and digital records
