HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to support the Austere environments Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO) located at Ft. Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to ACESO. U.S. citizenship required.

Performs research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. May provide limited guidance to lower-level Research Associates.

NOTE:  As a U.S. Government contractor, all HJF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by December 8, 2021. Proof of vaccination or an approved religious or medical accommodation will be required.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Works under the direction of the PI to conduct laboratory experiments as needed. Performs laboratory research projects including collection and organization of data. Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures. Oversees and ensures the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials. (60%)
  2. Makes detailed observations about experiment. Provides quality control, trouble shooting, and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment. (15%)
  3. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories, and logbooks. Performs data entry for research projects and may maintain data and database(s). Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean. (10%)
  4. Assist with ordering & tracking of laboratory and study supplies. Trains and assists fellow level laboratory staff. (10%)
  5. Stays up to date on training as required. (5%)
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures; ability to meet deadlines of projects; good communication and analytical skills. ELISA, ELISPOT, PBMC Purification, RNA purification (PAXgene).

Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience is required.   

Work Environment: Office environment.

Work Arrangement: This position is 100% on site and has no teleworking capability.

Background/Security: U.S. citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier III Investigation/ Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
