MITRE Labs seeks a Biotechnologist with experience in the design, discovery, development, and manufacturing of biomedical products in the public or private sector. In this position, you will provide project leadership oversight and contribute strategic, business, and technical expertise to biodefense, biosecurity, and preparedness related programs across the US Departments of Defense (DoD), Homeland Security, Health & Human Services, and other agencies. You will provide USG program managers and senior leaders with subject matter expertise on the development, manufacturing, and distribution of medical countermeasures used to detect, prevent, and treat illness or injury caused by chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats, whether naturally occurring, accidental, or intentional. 

Key functions of this role may include:

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to advance industrial policy that can sustain the biopharma industrial base and support a growing bioeconomy.
  • Apply scientific, economic, and industrial knowledge to inform medical countermeasures portfolio investments
  • Research and maintain current knowledge of biomedical technologies with application to biodefense, medical countermeasures, biopreparedness, and biosurveillance.
  • Design and conduct real world evidence studies and/or virtual clinical trials to understand efficacy of medicines against novel pathogens or diseases of interest.
  • Conduct technical and business due diligence and assess supply chain risks of target technologies or products.
  • Design and execute experiments and studies that produce publishable, patentable, or actionable outcomes.
  • Propose internal research projects that anticipate government agencies needs with 2-5 year horizon.
  • Establish academic or industry partnerships to co-develop technologies of interest.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of related experience; or Master's with 6-8 years of related experience; or PhD with 3-5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant life science discipline (Master’s degree in related field preferred)
  • 8 years in biotech, pharma, venture, or equivalent industry experience
  • Biomedical product discovery and early-state development experience
  • Experience with project management and oversight of contract services and collaborators
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Project Management and oversight of contract services and collaborators
  • Biotech, pharma, venture, or equivalent industry experience
  • History of accomplishment in multiple scientific disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS in a relevant technical field
  • MBA, biopharmaceutical finance/economics, and/or business intelligence experience
  • Biotech-related portfolio analysis and strategy
  • Biomanufacturing at scale
  • Preparation of FDA regulatory documentations, submission process, and meetings
  • Manufacturing and clinical trial design or management experience
  • Synthetic biology applications to biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing
  • Experience with life science platform technologies
  • Patent and publication record commensurate with experience
  • Program management experience
  • Tech transfer or out-licensing experience
