WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. (WSM) is a nonprofit organization and fiduciary agent for Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act funding in Montgomery County. The non-profit organization operates the American Job Centers in Wheaton and Germantown and provides employment services to county residents who are unemployed or underemployed. Additionally, WSM engages employers in various industries throughout the county to ensure that their workforce needs are being met.
. Business Services Consultant (BSC) Position Overview
The role of the BSC involves two primary functions:
- Recruiting/connecting businesses to the services of WSM (customized training, on-the-job training, subsidized employment, tax credits, PT and FT jobs, youth work experiences, internships and summer jobs, candidate pre-screening and recruitment events, multi-employer job fairs, participating in other job fairs, individual initiatives, requested business services, regional events, etc.); and
- Developing employment and training opportunities utilizing all available resources to facilitate job placement into growth oriented, sustainable wage, full-time positions with benefits for area job ready candidates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of local and regional Labor Market Information using Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) and Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) databases, D&B, Book of Lists, etc.
- Cultivates and builds relationships with local employers to become trusted advisor to fulfill workforce needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with employers, employees, training vendors and higher education institutions, coworkers, workforce development partners, community-based organizations, area economic development entities, MD Department of Labor, MD Department of Commerce, Industry Associations, various Chambers of Commerce, etc.
- Serves as a connector between employers and other needed resources.
- Identifies business employment & training needs required with changing labor market trends.
- Conducts job matching activities for business customers.
- Conducts job development for targeted populations based upon the needs of local employers.
- Produces monthly performance reports including:
- Analyzes current marketing strategies and uses various to make ongoing recommendations to achieve and exceed marketing objectives.
- Makes site visits to local businesses to expand knowledge of the specific workplace needs, the environment and culture. Often this may call attention to an expansion or new equipment.
- Negotiates and coordinates completion of training contracts and other workplace agreements.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Credible knowledge of the Life Sciences industry including biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, for example.
- Knowledge of the agency's mission and services to cross sell when appropriate.
- Comfortable using CRM platforms to enter customer contact, needs data, and follow-up efforts.
- Possesses working knowledge of the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE) database, and accustomed to searching for employment listings on Indeed, LinkedIn and other job boards.
- Effective business communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Analytical skills applicable to reports and ability to research businesses and business-related news using a variety of resources via the Internet and other media.
- Ability to represent WSM via speaking engagements and presentations. Persuasive presentation skills such as listening and customizing language to resonate with customers.
- Knowledge of workplace assessment instruments and their application.
- Understanding of career pathways, sector strategies, work experiences, and apprenticeships.
- Ability to prioritize assigned tasks and handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to perform as a member of a team and to work independently.
- Ability to recognize business related problems and facilitate resolution.
- Computer literate & familiar with functionality of database applications, e.g., MS Office Suite.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, Economics, Business, Public Administration, or another related field.
- 2-4 years of business development/sales, human resources staffing/talent acquisition, account management or working with the business community in some relevant capacity.
- Attend after-hours networking and community engagement events, as needed.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and daily access to a reliable automobile covered by auto insurance.
- Must be able to handle private customer information appropriately and with sensitivity.
- Must pass criminal background investigation.
Status: Full Time, Exempt
Location: The position will be based either at the WSM American Job Center in Wheaton, MD or the Regional Services Center in Germantown, MD. Applicants should be local to the DC Metro region. Expect to work a hybrid schedule initially (virtual and live).
