About the Role

University Research Foundation (URF) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented AWOS Technician to support the operation and maintenance of Automated Weather Observing Systems in Maryland. This role is ideal for individuals with technical, aviation, or electronics backgrounds who are interested in flexible part-time work with the possibility of transitioning into a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS).
• Perform regular inspections, testing, and calibration of AWOS equipment.
• Document system configurations, maintenance activities, and performance.
• Communicate findings and updates to management and technical staff.
• Support compliance with FAA and airport authority requirements.

Qualifications

• Technical background in electronics, IT, aviation systems, or related fields.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (site visits may be required).

Preferred:

• Previous experience with AWOS, aviation systems, or airport operations.
• FAA certifications or related technical credentials.

Additional Details

• Schedule: 16–20 hours per week
• Pay Range: $29–$45 per hour (based on experience)
• Background Check: Not required (no security clearance necessary)
