Associate Scientist, Formulation and Drug Product Development

The Associate Scientist is part of a team responsible for the development of robust and stable formulations and manufacturing processes for clinical and ultimately commercial stage for our proprietary recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene delivery products. In this role you will have the opportunity to learn skills and gain hands-on experience in formulation and drug product process development, product characterization, clinical compatibility studies, and tech transfer of fill-finish processes to external manufacturing sites for multiple projects. You will also support the goals of cross-functional teams including presentation of updates and authoring technical reports.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute scientifically rigorous formulation screening, development, stability, and characterization studies to select stable formulations for our proprietary recombinant AAV gene delivery products
  • Perform laboratory studies to develop and characterize formulations and processes, using a variety of analytical techniques
  • Generate protocols and reports on the experimental work and deliver progress presentations at the team and department level
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, process development, and analytical groups on formulation development and stability studies
  • Keep current with advances in formulation development for AAVs and fill-finish processing, including relevant conference attendance
  • Support smooth laboratory operations including instrument and supplies management

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Biological Sciences
  • Demonstrated scientific creativity, technical proficiency and knowledge of scientific concepts
  • Knowledgeable with current analytical methods used for characterization of biologics
  • Detail oriented and able to prioritize assignments
  • Excellent record keeping abilities to adequately document process development data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate within the organization as well as externally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS or PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Biological Sciences
  • Relevant experience with a focus on formulation and drug product development (job level will be dependent on experience)
  • Hands-on experience with analytical testing of biologic products

WORKING CONDITIONS AND/OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lab work will be conducted in a biosafety level 1 laboratory, and some chemicals with a moderate level of biohazard risk will be handled
  • Ability to travel as needed, with expected travel time requirement to be < 15%
